BDSM Scenarios: 18 Power-Exchange Scenes, Set Up Properly

Role play ideas are easy to come by. Scenes are harder, because a scene has a shape: something set up, something that escalates, something that lands, and something afterwards that puts you both back together. Most of what goes wrong in power-exchange play happens because a couple had an idea and no shape.

Everything below assumes you have already had the conversation. If you have not — if you do not yet know what your partner wants, what they will not do, and what word stops everything — start with the role play guide and come back. These scenes are more intense than the ones there, and they are considerably less forgiving of a couple who have not talked.

What makes a scene rather than an idea

Four parts, and skipping any of them is where scenes fall apart.

The setup is everything agreed before you begin — who is who, roughly where it goes, what is off the table, and the word that ends it. Ten minutes of this buys you an hour of not having to think.

The opening is the first line or the first action, and it carries more weight than anything after it. If the opening is tentative, the whole scene stays tentative. Commit to it before you are ready.

The escalation is the middle, and it works by raising one variable at a time — intensity, or duration, or humiliation, or restraint. Raising several at once is how people overshoot.

The landing is how you stop. Scenes rarely end cleanly on their own, and stopping badly can undo an otherwise good hour. Decide in advance roughly where it finishes, then handle aftercare properly.

Negotiating before you start

The conversation that matters takes about ten minutes and covers four things.

What each of you actually wants from it. Not the scenario — the feeling. Being overpowered and being looked after are different wants that can wear the same costume, and finding out mid-scene is not the moment.

Hard limits, said plainly. Things that are not happening tonight or ever. There is no need to explain or justify one; a limit that requires a reason is not being respected.

The signal. A safeword everyone remembers under pressure — “red” is common precisely because it is boring. If the scene involves anything that makes speech difficult, agree a physical signal too: dropping an object held in one hand works, because dropping it is what a hand does when it stops holding on.

What happens afterwards. Who wants contact and who wants space, and for how long. This is not an optional epilogue — for a scene with any real intensity it is part of the scene.

The scenarios

The Authority Figure

One partner takes a position of authority — a boss conducting a private meeting, a personal trainer pushing their client through a very personal workout, a hotel manager handling a “special request,” or a doctor doing a very thorough examination. Power dynamics work because they create tension and permission simultaneously. The person in authority gets to set all the rules; the other person follows them. Keep it simple and let the dynamic do the heavy lifting.

Interrogation

One person holds information the other is trying to extract. The trick is to make the information specific and real: shuffle a deck of cards, have the submissive secretly look at the top card, and the dominant’s job is to get them to reveal it. This gives the scene genuine stakes — the submissive actually has something to protect.

The dominant captures and restrains the submissive — stripping them, tying them to a chair or the bed — and begins applying “pressure” to get the information. This can incorporate spanking, clothespins, extended teasing, or whatever intensity level suits you. The dominant escalates gradually; the submissive can hold out as long as they like before finally cracking. The card reveal ends the scene cleanly.

Crime and Punishment

Invent some absurd but arrestable offenses: Attempted Seduction, Aggravated Sexiness, Possession of a Dangerous Body. Or have the submissive dress in provocative clothing and loiter visibly just as the dominant pulls up — only to discover they are a vice cop. The offender is placed under arrest, made to spread and submit to a thorough frisk, and tied because the squad room happens to be out of handcuffs tonight.

From there, the scene can go several directions: a bench trial ending in a spanking sentence, a bribe negotiated in sexual currency, or simply the officer taking full advantage of a captive in their custody. The silliness of the invented charges is part of the charm — it keeps the scenario from feeling too heavy while still delivering real power-exchange intensity.

Exchange of Power

She enters in full dominant gear — black bustier, long gloves, stockings, heeled boots — armed with a whip or toy pistol, and proceeds to command and demean. He plays along just long enough to lull her into overconfidence. Then he makes his move: the weapon is knocked from her hand, he delivers the legendary Kiss of Petite Mort (a kiss so overwhelmingly romantic that her will collapses entirely), and she finds herself bound and at his mercy instead. She struggles beautifully in her restraints. He takes his time. This is less a D/s scenario than a pure bondage power-reversal — good for couples who love restraint but prefer trading the dominant role rather than holding it.

Switch Tease

She ties his hands and blindfolds him before anything has started. Then she gets dressed — slowly, while he has to sit and listen — in an outfit she knows he loves. When she is ready, she removes the blindfold and proceeds to tease her prisoner without mercy. At some point she gets careless — maybe his pleading distracts her, maybe she leans too close — and he gets loose. He seizes her, turns the tables, ties her up, and drives her wild until she is the one begging. The switch is the engine: the reversal of power from tease to captive is what makes this one tick.

Night Security

The dominant is a security guard; the submissive has committed an infraction — trespassing on private property late at night, for instance. The guard takes the offender to the security room for a humiliating strip search, explains that the police would normally be called, and then makes it clear that other arrangements are possible. Wanting to avoid a night in jail, the offender complies with whatever the guard instructs.

Variation: Company policy requires the search to be videotaped for liability purposes — so everything that follows is on camera, adding an extra layer of humiliation to the proceedings.

The Hostage

The submissive is an innocent victim caught up in the wrong place at the wrong time — a carjacking, for instance, where the dominant is a desperate criminal moving too fast for the victim to escape. The criminal drives to an out-of-the-way location and decides to take full advantage of the situation. The run-down motel framing works well here too. This scenario lives or dies on the quality of the initial “capture” — commit to the tension of those first moments and the rest follows naturally.

The Prize

The submissive is a dancer at a nightclub running a special promotion: the winner of a drawing gets full use of the dancer for an evening, to do with as they please. The dominant is the winner. The dancer must be completely compliant — a human prize, obligated to allow whatever the winner wishes regardless of personal preference. This is a clean, low-setup scenario for couples who enjoy total-power-exchange dynamics without needing a complex backstory.

Secret Past

The submissive has a dark secret — something shameful that their spouse must never learn about. A figure from that past appears at the door with photographs and proof, threatening exposure. Desperate, the submissive buys silence with sexual favors. The blackmailer can make any demand; the submissive must comply or be ruined.

This scenario rewards a little prior planning. Consider booking a room at a cheap motel for the evening — it sharpens the atmosphere considerably. As noted above, the Photo Shoot scenario works naturally as a prequel, with the photographer later reappearing as the blackmailer.

Playing Army

Two possible frames: the resistance fighter captured by the garrison, tied to a chair and interrogated about the location of the secret base; or the soldier caught by the guerrillas, who are not known for their gentle treatment of occupation forces.

Costume options: he wears dark work pants, T-shirt, and combat boots as the soldier while she wears a partisenne costume of satin skirt, striped shirt, beret, and heels — or reverse the roles entirely, with her in a military-cut suit with brass buttons and boots. Pick a war, pick a side. In any version, the captive should eventually manage to seduce the guard and escape.

Burglar I: The Setup

Call your partner. Tell them you have heard there are burglars in the neighborhood who specifically target attractive people who leave their front doors unlocked at around eight in the evening. Be extremely unsubtle about this. Lay it on thick. Make it completely clear what they should be wearing and what the door situation should be when you arrive.

Show up in full burglar costume: black shirt, black slacks, leather gloves, a bag, a mask. Announce yourself cheerfully if you need to get buzzed in. Once inside, find your partner, overpower them, bind them, and gag them. Rummage through the room — go through the dresser, empty the jewelry box, make a thorough mess. Then have your way with your helpless victim before making your exit.

Critical note: Do not go through any door that locks behind you. Stay in the building. After a few minutes, change your shirt, remove the mask, and return as the concerned partner — “I just heard about the burglars, are you — oh my God, what happened?!” Untie your partner and accept whatever form of gratitude they offer for coming to the rescue.

Burglar II: The Reversal

In this version, the submissive is the burglar — black leotard, tights, boots, mask — who creeps into the house and begins rifling through the dominant’s belongings. The lights snap on. Caught in the act. The dominant ties up the would-be thief and calls the police — or pretends to — while the burglar pleads desperately, offering anything to be let go. The dominant takes their time deciding whether to accept the offer.

A scenario gives you the premise. What it does not give you is the dialogue once you are inside it, which is where most of these stall — The Roleplay Playbook takes fifteen of them to about fifteen hundred words each, negotiation and opening lines included.

Pony Play

The submissive is treated as a pony being trained by the dominant. A fairly elaborate scenario can be built around it: the acquisition of a new pony, the ritual inspection (checking teeth, checking gait, general examination), and the training of new behaviors. The dominant stands with a crop while the submissive is on a tether — attached to a bit gag or another suitable point — and runs circuits until they reach a consistent speed for walk, canter, and gallop. The crop provides motivation, and commands like “Get those knees up!” add to the scene. All you really need are a bit gag, some rope for reins, a hitching post (any sturdy fixed point), and space.

A popular variant adds a pony tail — a fall of hair attached to a butt plug — which can be combed, braided, and decorated with ribbons, adding a playful and slightly absurd dimension that many people find genuinely fun.

Mad Scientist

The dominant is the mad scientist; the submissive is the helpless experimental subject, strapped to the examining table deep inside the laboratory. The scientist — rubber gloves and disposable lab coat recommended — conducts endless experiments: probing with various instruments (vibrators work excellently here), applying clothespins to test response to compression, measuring how long the subject can be stimulated without being allowed to climax, cataloguing how many times orgasm can be induced in a single session. The cold, clinical framing is what makes this one work — the contrast between the scientist’s detached tone and the subject’s very un-detached reactions.

For polyamorous groups: a variant with a mad scientist, a submissive lab assistant, and an innocent experimental victim opens up interesting three-way power dynamics.

The Deprogramming

One partner is a recently rescued cult member, brainwashed and disoriented. The other is an unethical deprogrammer who is supposed to be helping them recover their sense of self but is instead exploiting their confusion and vulnerability for personal gratification. The cult victim, unable to reliably distinguish right from wrong after the programming they have undergone, is manipulated into doing things the deprogrammer frames as therapeutic — but which are entirely for the deprogrammer’s own twisted pleasure. The psychological complexity of this scenario — the blurred lines, the misplaced trust, the gradual realization — is what gives it its charge.

Ghost

This scenario requires three people who are all lovers. One person plays the “ghost” — invisible and inaudible to the other two. The two non-ghost players have a make-out session while the ghost does whatever they like to either of them. Because the other two cannot see or hear the ghost, they attribute every sensation to each other. The ghost can grope, tease, or touch completely freely, with full deniability. It is a clever frame for a threesome that gives one person enormous freedom while creating a fun confusion between the other two.

The Pirate

A classic ravishment scenario. You are the pirate plundering the village; your partner is the innocent at home alone. An eyepatch and bandana are optional but highly recommended for atmosphere. You crash through the door, overwhelm all resistance, rip the clothing away, pin your captive against the wall by the wrists, explain exactly what is about to happen — and then do it. This is one of the most straightforward scenarios in the guide and one of the most reliably effective. Sometimes simple is best.

Exorcism

One partner is possessed by a demon determined not to leave. The other is a member of the clergy called in to perform the exorcism. The demon’s strategy is seduction: it forces the possessed person’s body to do increasingly vulgar and profane things to distract and corrupt the priest. What makes this scenario psychologically rich is the layering — the possessed person is sexually naive and mortified by what the demon is making them do, while the clergyman is also inexperienced and genuinely alarmed by the situation. The demon exploits both of them.

This allows for genuine humiliation play — the possessed person can describe themselves in graphic terms, perform very kinky acts, and simultaneously appear to be resisting and horrified by all of it. Will the priest cast out the demon before both lose their purity? Almost certainly not, but the attempt is very entertaining.

Ravishment

Ravishment — consensual non-consent — is the most commonly fantasised scene in this entire category and the one most likely to go wrong, so it gets its own treatment rather than a line in a list.

The fantasy is of being overpowered. The reality required to stage it safely is the opposite: it is the most heavily negotiated scene on this page. Everything is agreed in advance — what happens, what absolutely does not, where it stops, and how it stops. The person apparently losing control is the person who set every boundary, which is the paradox at the centre of it and the reason it works.

Two things are non-negotiable. First, a safeword that overrides the fiction completely, plus a physical signal in case speech is part of what is taken away. Second, aftercare is not optional here — this scene can produce a genuine emotional drop hours later, in either partner, and both should expect it rather than be surprised by it.

If either of you is uncertain, the honest answer is not yet. This is not a scene to improvise into, and there is no version of it that survives one partner being unsure.

The intensity dial

Every scene here runs hotter or cooler without changing the scenario at all. The variables worth knowing:

Duration. The same scene at ten minutes and at ninety minutes is two different experiences. Longer is usually more intense than harder.

Language. How formal, how degrading, how much silence. Silence is underrated — a dominant who says very little is often more unsettling than one who narrates.

Restraint. None, symbolic, or actual. Symbolic restraint — being told not to move — does a surprising amount of the work with none of the risk.

Stakes. Whether there is a consequence for failing, and how real it is. Introducing stakes is the fastest way to raise intensity, and the easiest to overdo.

Our view, and it is a view rather than a rule: if a scene is not landing, the answer is almost always longer and slower, not harder.

Frequently asked questions

What if one of us breaks character and laughs?

Nothing is wrong. Laughing is not the scene failing, it is two people who know each other being briefly aware of that. Acknowledge it, breathe, and pick the thread back up — the second attempt is usually better than the first would have been.

How do we know if it went too far?

The signal is usually afterwards rather than during. If either of you feels flat, withdrawn or oddly sad in the following day or two, that is the well-documented drop rather than a sign anything was wrong — but it does mean the next scene should be gentler, and that the aftercare needs more attention than it got.

Does the dominant need aftercare too?

Frequently, and it gets overlooked because it is unexpected. Being the one who applied pressure can carry its own weight afterwards. Ask rather than assume.

Can we do these without any equipment?

Almost all of them, yes. Power exchange runs on attention and language rather than gear — see our guide to using everyday objects for what a household already contains.

If you want the accessible end of this — scenes with less setup and lower stakes — the role play guide is the place to start. If the sticking point is not the scenario but what to actually say out loud, that is a different problem — see what to actually say. And if the dynamic you are after has her leading, female-led roleplay covers it properly.
